ECOSYSTEM AND ITS PROPERTIES
IT IS AN INTEGERATED SYSTEM WHICH IS FORMED BY THE INTERACTION OF LIVING AND NON- LIVING COMPONENTS
THIS INTERACTION OCCURS MAINLY BY FOOD CHAIN , BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLES RESULTING IN ENERGY FLOW AND MATERIAL
THIS TERM WAS FIRST COINED BY A.G TANSLEY IN 1935. THE TERM "ECOSYSTEM " IS A COMPINATION OF TWO WORDS "ECO" MEANS "LIFE" AND SYSTEM MEANS "A SYSTEM OF CONNECTION" .
THE FOLLOWING BASIC PROPERTIES OF ECOSYSTEM EMERGE ON THE BASIS OF THE CRITICAL REVIEW OF ITS DEFINATION GIVEN BY DIFFERENT AUTHERS.
1.ECOSYSTEM REPRESENTS THE SUM OF PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT AND LIVING ORGANISM.
2.IN ECOSYSTEM SUN IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF ENERGY.
3.IT HAS IT'S OWN ABILITY TO MAKE ITS ORGANIC MATTER
4.IT COVERS A LARGE AREA WHICH MAY VARY FROM A SMALL COW - SHED TO THE WHOLE OF BIOSPHERE
5. ECOSYSTEM ALWAYS TRIES TO BE IN A STATE OF EQUILIBRIUM.
